Tribute to the lost-real-president...
I’m not trying to preach you with boring political analysis in this free-writing. But so sorry to bother you with my potentially disturbing comments for our most likely new elected president. It’s kind a hard to skim my sadness and sorrow to finally recognize that no one can contend undefeatable charisma of incumbent president SBY, particularly for individuals decided to vote for JK who I think has more original and fresh idea to overcome this long lasting economic calamity. But this is democracy we believe, democracy never promises to bring the best person to the presidency but it promises to bring the most liked one. And today, no chance not to believe it.
I’m a voter who is bought by JK campaign and ideas. I was so shocked when for the first time I watched Sujiwo Tejo (Golput Seumur Hidup!) in JK’s presidential campaign advertisement explicitly stated his support for him. Buya Syafi’i Ma’arif, one of the elder of Muhammadiyah, also commented JK is the real president of Indonesia, and so do long list of honorable figures of this nation. It portraits the degree of JK’s electability in the popular nation figures’ eyes.
I was not trying effusively to search who i would vote for, but i could identify someone introducing ‘different’ ideas in accordance with his belief and efforts since he started his political career, and it was JK. He talked about independency and dignity of our nation, he shouted for the need of youngsters like us to have greater access to begin new businesses. He called leaders to move faster in making decision in the age of economic depression we‘re facing today. And above all, he’s not someone who is ‘jaim’ in front of media; he is so natural and amazingly honest. And he mentioned his love to national product by giving example of wearing shoes made by Cibaduyut shoe makers.
Imam Prasojo, one of well-known national political commentator, said that we have to thank to JK of coloring the latest general election process by his ‘unevenness’. He was the only candidate who bravely criticized SBY and openly debated his 2004 election companion in official presidential debates held by KPU. He came with outstanding and easy going public speaking skill; all debaters in this nation will probably agree with me that he is the best debater within three candidates. He is funny, simple, but clear. He said what he believed as a right thing regardless whether people will like it or not. That’s the true leader supposed to speak, telling the ‘truth’ not what ‘sounds true’.
Now is the time to be realistic and humbly accept the fate. Quick counts show SBY-Boediono is leading with 61 % votes. The number is predicted stable and nearly similar with KPU official tabulation result. If it’s true, it means no hope for JK who only get 13 % votes. This is how democracy works, and this particular ‘God’ had chose its messenger to lead its lost sheep in the next five years.
As the not-taht-fanatic supporter of the defeated candidate i can only say, “Congratulation!” to the winning candidate. And with all respect i do hope SBY can continue his leadership with stronger and more effective governance. It’s going to be countless pride for us if SBY willingly considers programs JK had offered in the campaign period: continuing BLT, ‘Mampu’ program (Subsidy for entrepreneurs), and build ten thousand megawatt power plan to support the growth of domestic manufactures. Those programs are substantial to empower our micro economy and cover basic necessities of grass root society. And may God grant SBY and his cabinet with less natural disaster and transportation accident...Amin!
